Kristin Sniffen, MS is a doctoral student in Nursing Science at Florida State University with research interests in implementation science, diagnostic stewardship, antimicrobial resistance, and critical care. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Central Florida, and is board-certified as an adult nurse practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners. She has practiced as an infectious disease nurse practitioner in Orlando for 20 years, in the intensive care unit, caring for transplant recipients, and managing complex infections in critically ill patients. Professionally, Kristin has worked to strengthen infection management practice across her health system. She received the AdventHealth Safety Award in 2024 for system-wide initiatives to improve patient outcomes, and in 2026 was nominated for the health system's Advanced Practice Professional Award. At the Florida State University College of Nursing, she is a graduate assistant serving the DNP and BSN programs. Her current doctoral work examines the implementation of next-generation sequencing in adult critical care, extending prior work synthesizing its diagnostic yield and clinical impact in critically ill populations.
Research Interests
Kristin's research centers on next-generation sequencing and its role in the care of ICU patients, with a particular focus on translation science. She is especially interested in how sequencing can be integrated into routine intensive care practice to support timely, targeted antimicrobial therapy and to advance outcomes among critically ill and immunocompromised patients. Methodologically, her work emphasizes qualitative and implementation science approaches, using established frameworks such as the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research (CFIR) paired with directed content analysis, dual coding, and systematic evidence synthesis. Broader interests include antimicrobial resistance and diagnostic stewardship policy, infection management in immunocompromised populations, and social determinants of health among heart and lung transplant recipients.
