Hefina Oliver

Hefina Oliver is a current nursing student enrolled in the Honors in the Major program. She is conducting a study titled "Maternal Health Outcomes in High-Income Countries: A Comparative Analysis of Healthcare Systems, Pregnancy-Related Complications, and Obstetric Practices” which will explore and compare indicators of maternal health in the United States, United Kingdom, Japan, and Australia.

Hefina is originally from Wales and has a special interest in global health and promoting accessible medical care. She graduated with her International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma from Celebration High School and obtained her Emergency Medical Technician certification from Tallahassee State College (TSC) in 2025. On campus, Hefina served as a crew leader in FSU’s Medical Response Unit and is currently a learning assistant in the College of Nursing. Hefina hopes to work as a nurse in the Emergency Department following her December graduation and eventually go on further her education and serve as a nurse practitioner in emergency medicine or women’s health. 

Hefina Oliver’s major professor is Dr. Henna Budhwani who holds the endowed Michael and Paula Read Phelan Professorship in Obstetrical Nursing and is a faculty member in the Institute of Digital Health and Innovation. Her Honors in the Major committee members are Drs. Amanda Winrow and Megan Deichen Hansen.
