The NURTURe Program

The Training Experience

About Your Cohort

This training program will intentionally start with a small, focused cohort of three trainees to ensure that trainees receive high-quality mentorship and hands-on research experience while we build a strong foundation for future expansion. By concentrating on a select group of expert mentors, we can provide intensive, individualized guidance, while simultaneously developing a pipeline of secondary mentors who will be well-equipped to support future trainees. This phased approach allows us to establish a rigorous and sustainable training model, ensuring that as the program grows, we maintain the depth and quality of mentorship that is critical for developing nurse scientists at the forefront of digital health and AI.

NURTURe Curriculum

Each postdoctoral trainee will typically engage in the NURTURe Program for two years, providing a structured yet flexible experience. By the end of the program, postdoctoral trainees will be well-prepared to secure independent funding, transition into faculty or research-intensive positions, and contribute to the advancement of digital health and AI in nursing science.

All didactic experiences are highly individualized and tailored to the skill set of postdoctoral trainees and their independent research goals. The experience includes workshops, seminars, and formal coursework.

Why Choose the NURTURe Program?

The future of healthcare is digital. But there's a gap.

Digital technologies are transforming how we prevent disease, manage health, and deliver care, but innovation doesn't automatically improve health. Many promising technologies never reach people who could benefit them. Challenges include:

  • Limited adoption in real-world settings
  • Poor fit with patient and community needs
  • Lack of implementation expertise
  • Access and other systemic barriers

Why nurse scientists?

Nurse scientists bring a unique perspective because they understand:

Patient experiences and how care is delivered in the real world

Clinical workflows

Research and evidence

As AI and digital health tools become more common, healthcare needs leaders who can:

400(w)x500(h), preferred ratio 4:5

Design patient-centered solutions

400(w)x500(h), preferred ratio 4:5

Implement innovations responsibly

400(w)x500(h), preferred ratio 4:5

Evaluate what works to ensure technologies improve care for everyone

The NURTURe Program trains the next generation of leaders.

The NURTURe Program prepares nurse scientists to:

   INNOVATE

Develop digital health solutions

   INTEGRATE

Apply AI and emerging technologies

   IMPLEMENT

Translate research into practice

   ENGAGE

Partner with communities throughout the research process

NURTURe Program Highlights:

  • Three fellows selected annually for two-year postdoctoral fellowship
  • Individualized primary and secondary mentorship
  • Interdisciplinary training across nursing, medicine, behavioral science, and technology
  • Hands-on experience with digital health and AI-driven research
  • Professional development focused on grant writing, leadership, and career advancement
  • Conference travel support and research dissemination opportunities

By training nurse scientists in digital health, AI, and community-engaged implementation science, the NURTURe Program is building a workforce capable of transforming healthcare and improving health outcomes for individuals, families, and communities.
