We are primarily seeking postdoctoral scholars with a nursing background, though exceptional candidates from related disciplines may also be considered. Ideal applicants for the NURTURe Program:
- Hold a bachelor's degree or higher in nursing
- Have completed a research doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) prior to the start of the fellowship
- Have an interest in advancing digital health, artificial intelligence, and technology-enhanced healthcare solutions
- Demonstrated commitment to interdisciplinary research, team science, and improving health outcomes
- Per the NIH Appointee Eligibility requirements, candidates must be enrolled in a research or clinical doctoral or postdoctoral program and must be a U.S. citizen, a noncitizen national of the United States, or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence at the time of appointment
Remote applicants will be considered, though local presence may be prioritized based on specific research interests and mentor alignment.

- Submit required supplemental materials, including your personal statement, mentor preferences, and three letters of recommendation.
Applications for the 2026-2028 cohort are due by September 1, 2026.
Applications for the 2027-2029 cohort are due by February 1, 2027.

- Our steering committee will review applications, conduct interviews, and select trainees. Candidates will undergo interviews with the steering committee and potential mentors to evaluate their suitability for the program.
- The selection criteria will focus on the candidates' academic achievements, research potential, and alignment with the program's goals.
- Once selected, trainees will be matched with primary and secondary mentors based on their research interests and goals.
- The program for this academic year is slated to begin November 2026.
Each postdoctoral trainee will typically engage in the NURTURe Program for two years, providing a structured yet flexible experience. By the end of the program, postdoctoral trainees will be well-prepared to secure independent funding, transition into faculty or research-intensive positions, and contribute to the advancement of digital health and AI in nursing science.
All didactic experiences are highly individualized and tailored to the skill set of postdoctoral trainees and their independent research goals. The experience includes workshops, seminars, and formal coursework.
Primary mentors are senior faculty members whose research is focused on technology-based interventions that address behavioral, clinical, or other health outcomes research.
Secondary mentors are early and mid-career faculty who provide postdoctoral trainees with additional perspectives and strategies for success.
Applicants will identify preferred mentors when submitting required supplemental application materials. Each selected trainee will be matched with a primary and secondary mentor based on research alignment, training needs, and mentoring style preferences.
