The Steering Committee is responsible for making all decisions related to the operation of the NURTURe program. The Steering Committee will perform the following functions:
Faculty & Mentorship
Select program faculty, identify new mentors, and assign primary mentors, secondary mentors, and consulting advisors to trainees.
Trainee Recruitment and Support
Recruit, interview, and select postdoctoral trainees; monitor mentor-mentee relationships and trainee progress through biannual evaluations.
Individual Development Plans (IDPs)
Evaluate and provide feedback on each trainee's IDP and accomplishments.
Curriculum and Training Events
Assess and refine the training curriculum; plan and organize special training activities.
Independent Support
Assist trainees in securing independent funding (e.g., loan repayment programs, T32 and K applications to NIH, and other agencies).
Job Placement Support
Facilitate job placement by providing networking opportunities, coaching on interviewing and job talk skills, and support at conferences.
Program Evaluation, Feedback and Operations
Evaluate recruitment and feedback success.
External Advisory Committee
The External Advisory Committee includes three members from outside institutions with nursing science expertise and experience mentoring postdoctoral trainees. The committee meets semiannually to review all aspects of the program's operation, identify challenges, and make suggestions for changes to the program for the Steering Committee to discuss.
